Whole House Water Filters – How Do You Make Sure It’s the Right One? by Lauren Leddy
in Health / Wellness (submitted 2010-07-29)

Due to the state of our drinking water, interest in whole house water filters is way up, and taking an interest in ensuring clean water for your family is great so long as the filter you buy is the right one for the job.

Some unscrupulous companies out there are willing to sell you products that don’t meet your home water purification needs. Let’s take a look at what they are trying to sell you.

The goal of any countertop, under counter, or whole house filter is to aid in the removal of the literally tens of thousands of harmful contaminants that are present in our groundwater and reservoir system. The vast majority of these pollutants are chemical, but there also are toxic metals present. Further, you need to be aware of microscopic organisms that have survived the chlorine disinfection process.

Your whole house water filter or point of use units need to feature the filters necessary for the removal of as many toxic and carcinogenic contaminants as possible. You have to be careful about what you buy, because many of the filtering systems being offered do pathetically little when it comes to removing contaminants from your water. You don’t want to make the expensive mistake of buying one of these.

What you need to watch out for are those companies that are trying to push what is called a reverse osmosis filter system as a home purification system. This is the sort of system that is used by certain industries such as car washes and photography labs, because the water they use cannot contain any particulates that would ruin the finish of their products. Demineralization is what this system is designed for.

Reverse osmosis whole house water filters will remove the mineral content of your water, but will do little else for you other than waste water and electricity. The porous membrane filters these appliances use to filter your water cannot remove any of the microscopic organisms that may be present, and only due to an activated granular carbon pre-filter can they remove some of the chemical contaminants.

The filters these home systems use are no different from the ones used by the water treatment facilities, in that they cannot remove anything from your water of equal or lesser molecular weight than the water itself. Without the activated granular carbon filter, these appliances would remove nothing that threatens your family’s health. However, more than just that one filter is needed.

The reverse osmosis system of whole house water filter typically does not feature the multi media block that is supposed to work as a companion to the activated granular carbon filter to guarantee the removal of all chemicals. This system will also not use a submicron filter to remove any threat posed by microscopic organisms in your water, and an ion exchange for removing toxic heavy metal traces.

Reverse osmosis whole house water filters don’t offer you the complete protection that a system incorporating this quartet of filters does

5 One Off Jobs by Alfred Halfnight
in Home (submitted 2010-07-01)

With spring just around the corner, it’s time to start thinking about those little jobs you’ve been neglecting. Bad news is that they’ve probably turned into big jobs while you were busy doing other things, but these tips on the five biggest one off cleaning jobs ought to help you out when you finally get around to doing them.

#1 – End of tenancy cleaning. For end of tenancy cleaning London landlords and lettings agents have some fairly strict, and potentially expensive regulations. If you plan on vacating your current property in the near future, you have a seriously big one off cleaning job on your hands. Consult your landlord or lettings agent for a cleaning checklist, and call a professional if you’re running short of time or think you won’t be able to get it all done yourself.

#2 – Waste removal. From cleaning your gutters and storm drains to getting rid of household rubbish in large quantities, waste removal can be a big one off cleaning job. Be sure that you can use council bins in your neighbourhood. Otherwise, calling to arrange a removal company or have a skip placed outside your home is a good option before you get started.

#3 – Bathrooms and Kitchens. Stainless steel and porcelain or ceramic surfaces are among the hardest to clean, so luckily they don’t need doing every day. If you plan on tackling your kitchen or bathroom as part of this spring’s one off cleaning efforts, try baby oil, denture cream and

#4 – The washing-up. I know this doesn’t quite qualify as a one off cleaning job, but, depending on how long you’ve left it for, it may certainly be a big cleaning job. The key here is motivation, don’t procrastinate, don’t watch telly while you do it, just get in there and get rid of the dishes. If you are really fearful, bin the dirty dishes, head to IKEA and start over again; just know that if you don’t do them, no one else will.

#5 – The Oven. Yes, I know, it is positively beastly

But, what you may not know is that the diesel engine is also very efficient. A diesel pusher not only carries a lot of fuel, it is actually quite fuel-efficient for its size. Many gas stations now offer diesel fuel as a service for their customers, so finding a place to gas up shouldn?t be a problem.

If you will be taking trips for weeks at a time, or if you will be traveling with a group or your family, you should definitely look at a diesel coach. They are the most spacious RV on the road and they will have room for you and all of your stuff.

Even the most basic diesel motor coaches include standard features that might be considered luxury. So, even if you don?t want to spend a lot, you can still get a high quality RV.

RV lenders have great financing options with low interest rates and flexible terms and there are diesel coaches in nearly every price range.

Julie Jacobs writes articles about RVs, and how to finance them. For more information about a diesel pusher visit dscrvs.com..

PHILADELPHIA – Police charged a man with arson Wednesday in a fire at the music company offices of a Grammy-winning songwriting team who produced dozens of best-selling records from R&B; stars including Teddy Pendergrass, Patti LaBelle, Lou Rawls and the O’Jays.

Fire, smoke and water damage from last weekend’s blaze ruined 40 percent of the memorabilia at Philadelphia International Records, although the recording studio was largely spared, label co-founder Kenneth Gamble said Wednesday.

“When I walked through it the other day, it was like an old friend had died,” Gamble said. “I’m looking for the resurrection. Bottom line is, we’ll be back.”

Fear, sorrow: Face them, feel them, use them up

0 Comments | Sun, The; San Bernardino, Calif., Dec 1, 2007 | by Leo Greene

I was about to start work on an upbeat, morale-lifting and appropriately Christmasy message for my December column.

That’s not what’s going on, however. I’m a reporter. I’m supposed to tune in to what’s happening.

There are times it seems I’m the last to know.

At a few minutes before 5 a.m. Wednesday, you would have found me freshly splayed on my bedroom floor like a discarded marionette. I had made it halfway from my futon to the bathroom door when the floor got in my way.

Other than suffering a superficial scratch to my left elbow, I survived this latest crash largely undamaged.

This particular fall, however, forced me to confront new realities. Sitting on that cold hardwood, I came to the realization there was no way I could get back on my feet without assistance. My fading strength left me unable to accomplish maneuvers devised after previous falls.

So, I was either going to remain on the floor clenching my bladder until Ann got up for work, or I could call out for help

27, Mark 15,

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

27, Mark 15, Luke 23, John 19, and many times referred to elsewhere in the New Testament. The influence of early Christian literature on this subject and others is spread all over the Qur?an. Ali?s commentary regarding Christian and Gnostic literature is just one example of that influence.

Crucifixion was a form of capital punishment. It involved public shame to the person being crucified. The condemned had to be stripped of all his clothing; he was physically tortured, and was made to carry his cross along the public roads to the execution ground; then he was affixed to the cross, and was the object of taunts and indignities from passers-by. Death by crucifixion brought the condemned into a public disrepute.

Crucifixion provided an obstacle in the subsequent effort to convert the Jews to Christianity.

We take up arms.

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

We take up arms. The wolves go elsewhere after a few well placed warning shots. No harm done. One more option we have is to hunt down all the wolves so no one is ever threatened by a wolf again. In the war on terrorism, the only good wolf is a dead wolf. But an unofficial breeding program guarantees they multiply faster than they are destroyed. It will be the world’s longest war.

Deepak also made the point that America is making war on all kinds of things. He listed four declared wars, missed the war on drugs and all the undeclared, unpublicized wars. The war on environment, on health, on family, on the middle class, the sick, the poor, the war veteran, the prisoner. The list itself has no end. Not as long as we have professional policy makers among us. Deepak’s point went to the war mentality, implying that solving every social problem with a war is a severe case of constricted awareness.
